Hugues Hardy Ruremesha is the Founder and CEO of SpringEco, a social enterprise specializing in the circular economy and plastic waste recycling, dedicated to creating sustainable environmental solutions while generating economic opportunities for young people and communities in Burundi.
He has over nine years of experience in community development and social innovation. Coming from a disadvantaged background and deeply influenced by his early experiences in the scouting movement, Hardy has been driven from a young age by a strong commitment to community service and social justice. This calling led him to found Spring Communities at the age of 21, a non-profit organization mobilizing youth as a driver of social transformation, before launching SpringEco as an entrepreneurial arm to strengthen the impact and sustainability of community initiatives.
Beyond SpringEco, Hardy has held several leadership roles, including Curator of the Global Shapers Community – Bujumbura Hub and Global Youth Ambassador for Theirworld. In recognition of his leadership, he was selected as an African Visionary Fellow 2023 by the Segal Family Foundation and as a Mandela Washington Fellow 2024.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in international business, specializing in fiscal decentralization and local finance from the Hague Academy for Local Governance, a program that strengthened his understanding of sustainable and inclusive development models. His commitment was also praised by the media outlet Yaga, which ranked him among the 10 young Burundians who made a significant social impact in 2020.
Through SpringEco, Hugues Hardy Ruremesha works to build responsible economic models, promote the circular economy, and empower African youth to become agents of environmental and social change.
